Director – Military & Veteran Health Research

For the past seven years and in partnership with RSL Queensland, GMRF researchers have established a nationally and internationally recognised research program investigating the physical and mental health challenges faced by the veteran community. Funding for a further five years is assured.

Our goal now is to build upon the current body of veteran health research through the expansion of key research initiatives and to progress translational projects to further enhance the health and well being of veterans, their families and the wider community.

Position Summary

The Director will bring to life the vision and mission of our veteran health and wellbeing research portfolio.

The Director will have an exciting opportunity to lead a multi-disciplinary team, foster a collaborative culture, and further develop research programs and research priorities. The Director will establish productive and mutually beneficial relationships with all major research collaborators, and will be expected to lead the team to the next level of performance, building upon the existing strengths and relationships.

Academic affiliation at an appropriate level will be negotiated between GMRF and a relevant university partner for the successful applicant.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A PhD or equivalent with academic strength in Behavioural Science.
  • An outstanding track record in health related research as evidenced by high impact and cited publications, with internationally recognised achievements in the field.
  • A track record of academic leadership in relevant health related research to support and grow a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven track record for effective team management including staff resourcing, employee development and performance management.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining strong collaborative national and international academic relationships with leading scholars.
  • Demonstrated high standards of research integrity, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.
  • An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote the activities at an institutional and wider community level, including university, government, and professional bodies.
  • Experience in management of finances and resources within a research-based organisation with rapidly evolving research activities.

Desirable

  • Experience working with/knowledge of the veteran community.
  • Experience with commercialisation and/or commercial application of innovative technologies.
Remuneration

This is a part-time, fixed-term appointment for 5 years. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Salary sacrificing will be available.

Research Fellow

The Foundation is currently seeking a highly organised and flexible Research Fellow to support the GMRF veteran research initiatives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Support the team of the Veteran Mental Health Initiative in delivering a qualitative research project. This will be done through the following:

Research activities:

  • Contribute to protocol development of new and existing research projects focused on veteran mental health and well-being.
  • Revise and complete human research ethics applications.
  • Conduct data collection and primary data analysis
  • Development of manuscripts and contribute to final reports

    Communication and Liaison activities:
  • Present research findings at academic conferences.
  • Present research information and findings at community and veteran specific forums.
  • Attend relevant stakeholder forums, meetings etc. to promote the activities of the Foundation.
SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Post Graduate qualification with Social Science or Psychology
  • Experience in academic research and study management
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative research
  • Effective time management and the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working with the veteran community
REMUNERATION

This position is a fixed term contract for 12 months and is available to permanent Australian residents only. Salary Range: $90,000 – $100,000 p.a depending on experience.

Communications and Engagement Specialist

The Foundation is now recruiting for a Communications and Engagement Specialist to develop and implement fundraising campaigns, communications and supporter engagement activities to increase the profile of the Foundation.

Essential:

  • A suitable qualified graduate in Marketing or Communications or similar experience
  • Significant experience coordinating and developing communications material
  • Strong, demonstrable experience writing, editing and proof reading for a broad range of communication channels and audiences
  • Experience developing content (stories and imagery) for both print and digital channels
  • Proven ability to build strong cooperative relationships with key stakeholders and teams
  • Creative and innovative thinker
  • Outstanding communication skills – written, verbal and active listening.
  • Self-starter, high level of initiative, proven proactive thinker
  • A commitment to continuous improvement in understanding and mastery of the digital and social media arena and its value as a development tool.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, WordPress, Adobe creative suite, CRM Raiser’s Edge (or similar database)
  • Proven skills in team-based interaction, project management and goal setting

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit, research or health related organisation
