Jacinta’s story
Jacinta is a wife, a mum and a full-time teacher aide. She is also a carer for her father. Like many in her position, Jacinta always puts others’ needs before her own.
She lived an active, social lifestyle, volunteering and joining in with her local cycling community. That is, until a diagnosis of stage three bowel cancer during the height of the pandemic changed everything.
Because of the pandemic and her high risk of infection, Jacinta was confined to her home or Greenslopes Private Hospital, where she was receiving treatment.
Feeling isolated, lonely and still coming to terms with her diagnosis, Jacinta made a call that would eventually ease the burden of her cancer diagnosis.
She called Cancer Wellness Program coordinator, Ranee.
Jacinta joined the Cancer Wellness community in January 2022, but it would be months before she could meet others in person.
Feeling supported and connecting through shared experiences can have a significant impact on our overall wellbeing – particularly for those of us going through something like cancer.
“I’ve been very blessed to be able to attend the Cancer Wellness Program and to have access to the activities. And I’ve connected with some wonderful people who are now my friends. That just made the journey so much easier for me,” says Jacinta.
Every year, nearly 10,000 people undergo cancer treatment at Greenslopes Private Hospital. You can help ease the burden of cancer for so many people like Jacinta by donating to the Cancer Wellness Program this Christmas.
