Help us take our next step toward research with impact

Thank you for supporting Tax Appeal 2026

Thank you for taking the next step with Gallipoli Medical Research

At GMR, every discovery begins with a single step and a shared commitment to create change. For more than 20 years we have worked alongside veterans, their families, clinicians and community partners to better understand complex health challenges and turn our research into real-world solutions.

With your support, we are improving care, informing policy, and creating healthier futures for generations to come. Today, our work stands at an important moment.

After more than two decades of discovery and partnership, we are seeing real change. But, some of the most urgent health challenges facing veterans and the broader community still remain. The next breakthroughs will only happen if we take the next step together.

This tax appeal gives you the opportunity to take that next step forward by choosing the project you feel most passionate about supporting. Below you can learn more about these projects, meet some of the people behind our work, and read about medical breakthroughs that you have helped pioneer.

Together, we can create a healthier future for all Australians. Thank you for taking the next step with Gallipoli Medical Research this tax time.
Thank you for giving the gift of hope, and for standing with us as we continue leading research with impact.

Choose the project you would like to support:

Project 1—Step forward for female veteran health

Women who have served in the Australian Defence Force often experience chronic pain differently and more complexly than their male counterparts, yet their needs have historically been overlooked. Many female veterans continue to live with untreated or misunderstood service-related health problems after leaving the military, while civilian clinicians often lack the training to fully understand their experiences.

Your support will help GMR turn our research into action by developing a dedicated online education resource to help clinicians better recognise and treat chronic pain in female veterans—ensuring the women who have served our nation receive the understanding and care they deserve.

Project 2—Step forward for advancing early detection of liver disease

Liver cancer has increased by more than 400 per cent in Australia over the past 25 years, and around one in three Australians has, or will develop, fatty liver disease, a major risk factor. The condition often develops silently and is frequently diagnosed late, particularly for veterans and people living in regional and remote communities where access to testing can be limited.

GMR is developing a simple saliva test to detect early signs of liver disease, making screening faster, easier and more accessible. Your support will help advance this breakthrough research and bring us closer to a non-invasive test that could transform early detection and improve liver health for Australians everywhere.

Project 3—Step forward for expanding holistic cancer care

Each year, more than 15,000 people receive cancer treatment at Greenslopes Private Hospital, but medical care is only part of the cancer journey. Many patients also face fear, exhaustion and isolation, making emotional support and connection just as important as treatment itself.

The Gallipoli Medical Research-funded Cancer Wellness Program provides free wellbeing support, education and community for patients and their loved ones during and after treatment. Your support will help expand this vital program so that no one facing cancer has to navigate their journey alone.

Project 4—Step forward for chronic lung disease research

Respiratory diseases such as nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections and bronchiectasis are becoming increasingly common, yet many questions about these complex conditions remain unanswered.

NTM are bacteria found naturally in soil and water that can cause serious lung infections, particularly in people with underlying lung conditions such as bronchiectasis.

At Gallipoli Medical Research, our respiratory researchers are working to better understand these diseases, improve diagnosis and treatment options, and identify new ways to prevent infection and slow disease progression. Through innovative research, we aim to improve the quality of life for people living with NTM lung disease and bronchiectasis.
