About Gallipoli Medical Research

Our story

We are a leading independent medical research institute located in Brisbane, Queensland.

Our biopsychosocial research acknowledges the physical, mental and social factors influencing illness. We address health issues among veterans, their families and the wider community.

We aim to translate our research into practical tools and programs for better community health outcomes.

Our journey

Launched in 2005, Gallipoli Medical Research is proud to be part of Greenslopes Private Hospital’s long tradition of providing health and medical support to veterans and their families.
  1. 1942

    Official opening

    The 112th Australian General Hospital officially opened in Greenslopes with the first 35 war patients admitted.

  2. 1947

    Post WWII

    Following the end of World War II, the Repatriation Commission assumed administrative control of the hospital.

  3. 1970

    Teaching hospital

    Greenslopes Hospital (the Repatriation General Hospital) became a teaching hospital of UQ.

  4. 1997

    Veterans' Research Foundation

    The Greenslopes Private Hospital Veterans’ Research Foundation was launched.

  5. 2005

    GMRF launched

    The Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation was launched.

  6. 2006

    Clinical trials

    Clinical trials commenced at GMR with a focus on liver disease.

  7. 2011

    GMR expands facilities

    New research labs and clinical trial facilities were built.

  8. 2012

    RSL Queensland partnership

    Partnership with RSL Queensland is established with a world-first study into whole-body impacts of PTSD.

  9. 2013

    Liver Cancer Unit

    GMR established its Liver Cancer Unit, made possible by the support of generous donors.

  10. 2017

    Cancer Wellness Program

    The Cancer Wellness Program launches at Greenslopes Private Hospital, funded by GMR and its donors.

  11. 2025

    Today

    GMR has grown to more than 60 staff across clinical trials, biomedical research, and professional roles.
