Families & friends of veterans

To support families and improve health outcomes across veteran communities.

When a veteran serves, so do their families.

We are the only Australian organisation conducting research into the needs of transitioning family members.

We’re leading research into family functioning, mental health, parental stress, and childhood adversity among transitioning ADF families.

With about 60% of Australian veterans living with long-term health conditions, our work is more important than ever.

Carers in Australia

Carers Australia defines carers as “people who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.”

Veteran carers can encounter unique pressures, including secondary trauma and limited access to dedicated support.

We ask Australia’s veteran community to help shine a light on the often unseen emotional and economic toll of caregiving within military families.

The insights from families, carers and adolescents, is critical to conducting robust research and ultimately informing policies and programs to shape better services and support for carers.
