The panel discussed the new policy, which will focus on increasing government spending with businesses that are owned by or support veterans.

“Queensland is home to the highest proportion of veterans in the country—28% of Australian veterans, or about 163,000 current and ex-serving personnel,” Miriam said.

“The Queensland Procurement Policy recognises the significant contributions of our veteran community, acknowledges the barriers many face when transitioning to civilian careers, and most importantly, provides a clear and meaningful pathway for veterans to continue serving their communities beyond Defence.”

“The policy truly recognises the transferable skills and the talent that veterans bring to civilian employment and genuinely seeks to support them through a stronger focus on veteran-owned businesses and organisations that employ or support veterans,” she said.
