Mental health and suicide are important health issues in military and veteran communities, impacting the lives of many current and ex-serving Defence personnel and their families.
QCMHR is leading a research program to understand and enhance responses to suicide crises involving ex-serving members of the ADF. As part of this program, GMR led on a research study with emergency responders, and ADF members and families to understand the experiences and opinions of suicide crisis events.
The research results from the interviews and focus groups with participants has created an evidence base to inform a best practice training package for the Queensland Police Service. This package is designed to support emergency responders handling veterans in suicide and improve the quality of their engagement.
