Our longstanding research partnership with RSL Queensland has delivered insights that have informed the design of practical tools and programs to better support current and ex-serving ADF members and health practitioners. RSL Queensland has contributed more than $20 million to support our research to improve health outcomes for ADF personnel.
Veteran health tools
World-first, evidence-based tools to support current and ex-serving ADF members and their families as they transition to civilian life
Why are these tools important?
The transition to civilian life is associated with increased risk of mental health disorders, suicide, and poor adjustment. Approximately 78% of transitioned members experience a difficult transition out of military service, with 50% reporting they have not reintegrated or adjusted to civilian life up to 10 years after separation.
These free tools and programs are tangible, evidence-based and the only tools in the world that holistically prepare current and ex-serving personnel for a successful transition from military to civilian life.
All of our tools and programs are co-designed by veterans.
Tools for current serving ADF members
MT-Ready (Mental Readiness for Military Transition Scale)
MT-Ready is a quick, valid and reliable method to assess mental readiness for the transition from the ADF.
The 15-question assessment takes two minutes to complete and allows ADF members to identify whether they will benefit from support in three key areas: future focus and optimism; anger and perceived failure; and civilian connections and social support.
Tools for ex-serving ADF members
M-CARM (Military-Civilian Adjustment & Reintegration Measure)
M-CARM is a practical tool to assess how veterans are adjusting and reintegrating to civilian life after military service.
The 21-item questionnaire is designed to assess adjustment and reintegration into civilian life after military service.
Nearly 3000 veterans have completed the M-CARM, and we know that the top areas of need are beliefs about civilians (69%), regimentation (68%), resentment and regret (60%), purpose and connection (46%) and help seeking (28%).
Go Beyond
Go Beyond is a training program to help veterans navigate life beyond service.
After completing MT-Ready or M-CARM, Go Beyond offers a tailored and self-directed program based on veterans’ individual needs.
Go Beyond’s key areas of focus align with MT-Ready and M-CARM, to provide users with information on research, practical activities and resources based on their M-CARM profile.
