Despite the rain, volunteers sold more than $50,000 in tickets over both nights, raising important funds to go towards veteran health research and programs.
On Friday night, the Australian Defence Force delivered a spectacle for fans on arrival, lending their support by supplying personnel to help sell tickets and bringing a Hawkei onto Suncorp Plaza to help us engage with more football fans.
Then, GMR patrons Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO and Major General Emeritus Professor John Pearn AM RFD joined Australian para-canoeist and former soldier Curtis McGrath OAM to deliver the match ball ahead of the Dolphins game.
We had some special guests attending the game including the Cancer Wellness Group, as well as several veterans joining us, treated to a special sideline experience, where they watched the warm-up and had premium tickets to the game.
GMR was thrilled to showcase the ‘every Queenslander knows a veteran’ campaign, handing out postcards and showing a video on the big screen demonstrating the six degrees of separation between the Queensland community and our current and ex-serving Defence members
GMR is so grateful to the NRL Dolphins’ and Queensland Reds’ for their continuing support of our research through the Friends of Gallipoli Medical Research initiative, bringing together Queensland’s peak sporting bodies to foster healthier and connected lives through research.
Our sincere thanks to the Australian Defence Force and Brisbane Excelsior Band and our volunteers from Bupa, Microsoft, The University of Queensland, The Women’s College UQ, Volunteens and MPC Kinetic.
