The partnership is part of the Friends of GMR initiative, which brings together Queensland’s peak sporting bodies with the veteran community to foster healthier and connected lives through research.

The Queensland Rugby Union partnership allows us to further support veterans and their families through awareness, advocacy, and fundraising.

Following the Reds’ now-traditional Anzac Day clash against the Auckland-based Blues, each player’s match-worn jersey will be put to auction, with proceeds going to Gallipoli Medical Research.

The special Anzac jersey features 12 red poppies, in honour of the 12 Queensland Reds killed while serving their country. More than 60 players have served their country in wartime.

GMR will also benefit from the 50-50 charity raffle conducted at the Reds vs ACT Brumbies game at Suncorp Stadium on 2 May.

“Gallipoli Medical Research is delighted to partner with the Queensland Reds this Anzac Day to honour all who’ve served our country, including Queensland Reds players,” GMR CEO Miriam Kent said.

“I’m sure many veterans will enjoy watching this weekend’s Anzac Day match against the Blues in New Zealand. Go the Reds!”

QRU Chief Executive David Hanham said the QRU was proud to be linked with an organisation improving the lives of veterans.

“Queensland rugby has links across more than a century with the men and women who have served Australia,” Hanham said.

“Our Anzac Day match against the Blues is played on a significant day to Australians and it is fitting we can proudly announce our partnership with Gallipoli Medical Research this week.”
