Million dollar day for
Research Foundation
It was a Million Dollar Day on 21 February for the Hospital’s
Gallipoli Research Foundation, when
it officially acknowledged
the financial assistance of its key supporters at a special cheque
presentation ceremony.
The ceremony was part of a special celebration to mark the
Hospital’s 10th anniversary as part of the Ramsay Health Care
group.
Special guest, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, The Hon. De-Anne
Kelly MP, assisted with the cheque presentation and unveiled
a special plaque to commemorate the official opening of the
Hospital’s refurbished research laboratories and the Gallipoli
Research Foundation Fundraising Office.
“We are embarking on a new era of research here at
the Hospital; a new venture that will bring a great sense of
achievement as we assist our researchers to find causes, cures,
better management methods, and improved medications and
treatments of a range of major conditions that affect the health
of
our veterans and the Australian community at large.”
The vision of the Gallipoli Research Foundation, which is a
new initiative jointly sponsored by Greenslopes Private Hospital
and the University of Queensland School of Medical and Faculty
of Health Sciences, is to become an internationally renowned
centre of excellence in heath and medical research. In doing so,
the Foundation will provide a lasting legacy to the veteran and
war widow community. 2005 is a significant year of commemoration as it is the 90th
anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli and the 60th anniversary
of the end of
World War II.
Mr Kinkade said that the Hospital was proud of its
long history of care for the veteran community, which spanned more
than 60
years.
“The establishment of this Foundation demonstrates our
ongoing commitment, to the veteran community” he said.
