GMRF Competitive Grant Round  -  Now Closed

The Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation Research Committee now invites applications from doctors, nurses and allied health staff of Greenslopes Private Hospital for financial grants to support research at this Hospital.  The Research Committee, Chaired by Associate Professor Charles Mitchell, consists of eminent researchers who are approved by the NHMRC to assess research funded by the Gallipoli Research Foundation.

The Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation Competitive Grant round process is designed to provide seeding grants to health practitioners of Greenslopes Private Hospital who are interested in pursuing research. The grants are in the order of $5000 to $20 000.  In 2007, over $100,000 was allocated to applicants.  Applications should address the assessment criteria below and these applications will be assessed by the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation Research Committee in August 2008.  Applications that exceed $20 000 will not be considered.

Research must be consistent with the objectives of the Foundation, which are:

  • To undertake research into the causes, prevention and cure of disease in the human population;
  • To undertake and promote research projects in relation to health issues which are of particular relevance to the veteran community.

The Roger Trundle Memorial Grant for Melanoma Research - $20,000
In memory of the late Roger Trundle, former Managing Director of Thiess Qld Pty Ltd, a special grant of $20,000 will be offered each year during the competitive grants process, to  fund melanoma research projects.  Research proposals in this area will be assessed according to the same criteria as the other grants (see below) but with an emphasis on research into melanoma.

Assessment Criteria
The research proposals will be assessed by the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation Research Committee according to the following criteria:
  1. Significance of the issue to the community
  2. Relevance to the objectives of Foundation (see above)
  3. Track record
  4. Design and methodology of research proposal
  5. Feasibility of research
  6. Financial requirements

Preference will be given to research that is largely undertaken at Greenslopes Private Hospital particularly by new researchers, post graduate students and multidisciplinary clinical teams.

Applications should be forwarded electronically by 30 June 2008
