WE NEED YOUR HELP! - Fundraising

Raising funds in the community

Community fundraising plays an essential role in raising awareness and funds to potentially save the lives of thousands of people each year through medical research. Holding your own event is a fun way to help the GMRF raise vital funds.

We can guide you on running your event, and below are a few fundraising ideas, but the possibilities are limited only by your imagination!

Community Event Ideas

Trivia night
Trivia nights are a fun way of getting groups of people together to raise funds for the GMRF. Ask friends, family, work colleagues, clients etc. to fill tables of ten at a cost of $10 per person, for example. There could be ten rounds of ten questions with small prizes for the winning table per round and a prize for the overall winner.

Sausage Sizzle
Why not hold a sausage sizzle at your school, workplace or community group? Companies such as Bunnings and Mitre 10 will also allow you to organise one on site.

Dress down day at work
Organise a casual dress down day at work and ask participants for a gold coin donation to be donated to the GMRF.

Barefoot lawn bowls
A set entry fee could cover food, drinks and green fees. You could also have prizes for the worst roll, best costume etc

Cook up a storm for Anzac Day for the GMRF
Grab your ingredients, dust off your chef’s hat, get your mixer ready – it will soon be Anzac Biscuit Day and we need YOU!

eBay auction
Got a painting with nowhere to hang it? A set of golf clubs that you just haven’t used? Put unwanted or donated items for auction on eBay and donate the money towards your fundraising goal.

Movie Nights
Cinemas can be really helpful and open their doors for a movie screening, with a percentage of ticket sales to go towards the GMRF.

Guessing Competition
How many Anzac Day biscuits in a jar? (e.g. $1 donation to guess)

Self sacrifice
Make the ultimate sacrifice and give up chocolate for two months and ask your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor your pledge! Or in-stead of buying your morning coffee or lunch, make it at home or work and donate the money you would have spent towards achieving your fundraising goal.

GMRF Collecting Box in your school or business
Join the growing number of businesses that are helping to save lives through medical research.

Raffle
Use your contacts with business and friends and ask for an item to be donated and used as a raffle prize. Recruit a group of people to sell raffle tickets for $2 each or 6 for $10 (for example) and raise as much money as you can.
There are some rules for conducting a raffle. On any advertising material you should state the retail value of the prize, the cost of the tickets, the time, date and where the raffle is being drawn, and how the winners will be contacted (phone, mail etc). For more information, please check out The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) website.

Garage sale
Collect household items, books, clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac from friends, family and co-workers and hold a garage sale. Advertise in your local paper or in the relevant section in The Courier-Mail. Invite your friends to help on the day.

Please contact the GMRF Office for more information on (07) 3394 7284.
