Current Research Projects

Liver Fibrogenesis:

We currently have several projects underway examining mechanisms and treatments of hepatic fibrosis. These include:

  • Post-liver transplantation disease recurrence and the influence of immunosuppression in this process.
  • The antifibrogenic potential of sirolimus and everolimus in cholestatic liver disease.
  • Epithelial to meshenchymal transition and the ductular reaction as pathways to fibrosis in cholestatic liver disease.

Co-Toxic Liver Disease:

Research projects in co-toxic liver disease include:

  • The role of hepcidin and iron transporters in disease progression in alcohol and iron co-toxic liver disease.
  • The role of hypoxia and proteosome function leading to liver injury in alcoholic liver disease in the setting of iron-overload.
