Maki
Horanai
Maki
has held a number of solo exhibitions since arriving in Australia
from Japan in 2005. Maki is an exciting new talent whose work immediately
engages the viewer with its dramatic imagery and rich colouration.
Her work is uniquely her own – displaying a combination of oriental
and western sensibilities that defy single term categories.
Maki
was born in Hakodate , Japan and grew up in small seaside villages
where the early influences of the ocean shore and islands have continued
to inspire the images in her art. Strongly influenced by the colours
and themes of western religious/iconic art, her works show a world
that exists both nowhere and everywhere, in the real world and in
our dreams.
