Laurindo De Abreu Soto

Laurindo is a Venezuelan born artist who has been living and working in Brisbane for the past 20 years. During that time he has established himself as a leading sculptor, gaining public commissions for councils such as Brisbane City and Redcliffe Council, Greenslopes Private Hospital and Hassall Architects.

He has entered and won prizes in major competitions during that time and has had a total of six major solo shows and many group shows.

The aesthetics of Laurindo's work are influenced by his studies in eastern philosophies, such as Adveita Vedanta, Zen Buddhism and Taoism.

Laurindo has a strong concern for exploring his ideas using a variety of materials and techniques. “My main concern is to extend the boundaries of my practice by utilising as many different materials as I can.”
