Get Involved: Leave your legacy

Leave your legacy

Leave Your Legacy For The Future Generations

By leaving a gift in your Will you can help the GMRF continue and advance its invaluable research here in Queensland. Your support in this way will ensure that the GMRF can continue finding the cures, preventions and treatments for currently incurable disease and chronic conditions, now and in the future.

What Is A Bequest?

Bequests and legacies are particular items or sums of money given as gifts to beneficiaries in your Will. After providing for your family and friends and once all debts and expenses are paid out, you may choose to leave a bequest to the GMRF. Including a bequest in your Will now has no impact on your lifestyle today and is the ultimate commitment of support for all those affected by life threatening disease.

Your Bequest

There are various forms of bequest you might consider, including:

  • The residue of your estate (after specific gifts and cost have been distributed)

  • A percentage of the residue

  • A specific amount of money

  • Specific items

Making Or Updating Your Will

Step 1 - Don't put off making your Will

In our increasingly regulated world, everyone over the age of 18 should make a Will. It's the only way to be sure that your wishes will be carried out after you've gone. It is also the best way to express your care for those you love and others who are close to you, including the organisations and causes you support

Step 2 - Seek advice from a solicitor or a trustee company

While making a Will can be very simple, it's important that it is prepared and executed correctly. See Options for ways to ensure your document will be effective.

Step 3 - Choose the form of bequest that best suits your wishes

After you've made provision for your family, loved one and friends, we encourage you to consider supporting medical research through the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation.

You may consider the following

  • A residual gift. After you've specified all your disbursements, you can indicate that you want to leave what is left to the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation

  • A percentage /fraction of your estate

  • A specific gift. In this case you may wish to nominate a specific amount, or specify non-monetary items e.g. property, shares, bonds or jewellery.

Step 4 - Include the correct wording to clearly indicate your intent

General Bequest Wording for leaving a bequest to the GMRF

And I direct that the receipt of the Secretary of the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executor for the bequest which is to be applied to the general purposes of the Foundation.

How Your Bequest Can Help

Very often charitable bequests, particularly those that are not expected can play a significant role in helping the organisation to undertake important projects that it would otherwise struggle to initiate due to a lack of funds. At the GMRF your bequest could help to fund a new research project; a new clinical trial; the salary of a new scientist or the purchase of much needed equipment. A general open ended bequest is the most helpful form of bequest we can receive as at the time of receipt of your bequest our priorities may have changed significantly from when you wrote your Will.
