Research: Clinical Trials Unit
About Clinical Trials
The Gallipoli Medical Research Centre Clinical trials Unit is a cross discipline, collaborative facility established to organise, coordinate and conduct investigator initiated clinical trials, and pharmaceutical company sponsored trials. These Phase I-IV clinical trials benefit the community through enhanced medical knowledge about the value and place of new treatments. Medical specialists can gain experience with new therapies and patients can participate in study protocols of new and potentially exciting therapies. The result is enhanced quality of care and treatment not available as standard care.
The unit manages all documentation of clinical trials including paper and computer based case record forms, and assists with regulatory affairs and database maintenance. The unit is also responsible for liaising between the Gallipoli Medical Research Centre, the TGA and local ethics committees.
Future plans for the unit include increasing capacity to assist more clinical researchers with the management of clinical trials through prevision of expertise in study design, participate recruitment, database design and management, statistical support and experience liaising with ethics committees and the TGA.
